The Enigmatic Beauty of God’s Ways

Introduction

Imagine embarking on an adventure where the unknown becomes the unknown treasure. This is what it means to explore the mysteries of God’s ways—a journey that invites us to surrender, trust, and discover the hidden beauty within.

As believers, we’re not just spectators in the grand narrative of life; we’re co-creators, woven into the fabric of God’s epic tale. By embracing the mystery, we begin to experience His presence, peace, and guidance in our lives.

In this journey, we’ll encounter twists and turns that challenge our understanding. But it’s in these moments that we find opportunity for growth, transformation, and a deeper relationship with Him. The unknown becomes familiar as we learn to trust, rely on faith, and lean into the unseen.

As we delve into the enigma of God’s ways, we’ll discover that the journey is not about finding answers but about embracing the questions. It’s about surrendering our need for control and instead, surrendering to His goodness, love, and sovereignty.

The mystery of God’s ways will leave us with more questions than answers. But it’s in this place of uncertainty that we find peace, hope, and a sense of belonging. For in the unknown, we’ll find the familiar presence of our Creator, guiding us through life’s twists and turns.

My Definitions for clarification and understanding

Conscience

The Conscience of an individual directs the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one’s conduct, intentions, or character, together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good.

The Will

The will is that gift freely given to mankind by God through which he makes choices. These choices may be good or bad. Thus, the term “free will” is coined to show that the will may be expressed as good or evil.

Wisdom

There is the wisdom of man and the wisdom that comes from God. The wisdom from man is based on personal gain that promotes the affluence and notoriety of an individual, presenting him to the world as being intelligent.

Wisdom, also known as sapience, is the ability to apply knowledge, experience, and good judgment to navigate life’s complexities. It is often associated with insight, discernment, and ethics in decision-making (Wikipedia).

The Word

When speaking of the Word in this paper, I am referring to our Lord Jesus Christ as defined in the Gospel of John 1:1 and John 1:14.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 ESV

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”, John 1:14 ESV

Let’s Embark On This Journey

To begin, we must understand these four principles from scripture:

1. Wisdom always existed.

Does not wisdom call? – Ages ago, I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. – I was beside him, like a master workman, and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man.” Proverbs 8:1,23,30-31 ESV

2. Wisdom is expressed through the Word.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1-2 ESV

To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth— Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:2-7

3. The Will existed in Him from the beginning.

The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts (Will) of old. – Proverbs 8:22

4. Wisdom exists in the Word.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God (the Word), who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV

Wisdom, the Will, and the Word are the trinity of power by which all things were created and continue to exist. They are the true expression of the beauty of God’s ways. This is good.

Some things created will cease to exist. This will occur because true wisdom from above will not allow evil to exist in its company. This is also good.

Wisdom, the Will, and the Word will never cease to exist. Understanding this trinity of power will help you understand God.

The Trinity of Power

We often reflect on the timeless truth of Proverbs 9:10: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Yet, there is a deeper layer of intimacy revealed in Psalm 25:14: “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him.” (KJV)

This “secret” lies at the very heart of discerning God’s ways. It can be understood through what I call “The Trinity of Power”—three divine dimensions that express the depth of God’s nature: Wisdom, Will, and Word. Let’s explore them individually.

Wisdom

Wisdom reveals God’s all-knowing nature. It is His divine insight guiding us through life’s complexities. True wisdom is not human intellect or cleverness—it is the godly application of knowledge.

Scripture reminds us that God’s wisdom is beyond human reach, yet He generously imparts it to those who ask:

For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” Romans 11:34 ESV

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 ESV

However, wisdom requires more than asking God for it—it requires knowledge. You cannot apply wisdom to a situation unless you know how to apply it. And, knowledge comes by hearing, studying, and meditating on God’s Word. This includes both spiritual and general or earthly knowledge. Growth, through wisdom, requires a continuous effort from each of us. If that effort ceases, we risk becoming stagnant, useless, and complacent to both society and God.

Jesus warns of this complacency:

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15–16 ESV

God’s wisdom also contrasts sharply with worldly wisdom. It often runs counter to human logic, creating tension and confusion in the minds of the unspiritual. But true wisdom comes from above:

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason,  full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17 ESV

This kind of wisdom mirrors the very character of Christ—priceless, life-giving, and eternal:

“She is more precious than jewels… Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor… they will be life for your soul.” Proverbs 3:15–16, 22 ESV

The Will

The Will expresses God’s sovereign authority and unwavering purpose. Human choices are influenced by many factors—God, people, circumstances, and personal desires. Yet when a person is Born Again, the will becomes subject to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is through our will, aligned with His Spirit, that the purposes of God are revealed in our lives.

“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13 ESV)

The Word

The Word represents God’s communicative and creative power. It is through the Word—both written in Scripture and spoken through experience—that God reveals His love, His truth, and His redemptive plan. The Word made flesh in Christ shows us the heart of God.

Unlocking the Trinity of Power

Understanding and embracing the Wisdom, Will, and Word of God opens the door to deeper intimacy with Him. It is in this sacred triad that we discover His ways, His desires, and His presence in our lives. As we grow in these three areas, we experience increasing trust, peace, and spiritual freedom, drawn ever closer to the mystery and beauty of God Himself.

The Development of Conscience

“Let your conscience be your guide” rings in the minds of younger children and adults as the righteous self-guiding words of Jimmie Cricket in the classic tale of Pinocchio. This sounds like a good choice, but the conscience of mankind is not the conscience of God. He is Spirit; there is no evil in Him. When we say “God is Good,” there is no room for conscience.

Initially, this direction of conscience is heavily influenced by one’s feelings or self. However, our conscience needs a benchmark with which to measure itself. That benchmark is the Word of God, the Will of God, and the Wisdom of God. This conscience is placed in you by God, but it is very weak.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart…” Ecclesiastes 3:11 ESV

“For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.” Romans 2:14-16 ESV

To one who is Born Again, the conscience begins to reflect goodness influenced by the Holy Spirit and becomes more trustworthy. This metamorphosis is a process. It is the conscience that awakens the will. The most profound act of mankind is that done by the will (OC). The metamorphosis that takes place will be so complete that it is no longer your conscience that speaks, but “Christ in you the hope of glory”.

…that by them you may wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,” 1 Timothy 1:18-19 ESV

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27-28 ESV

Summary

As we stand on the threshold of time, thousands of years of history converge to form this singular moment of our existence. The last days are upon us, and we must seize this opportunity with wisdom and obedience. We must embrace the beauty of God’s ways. This opportunity and adventure will not pass by you again.

In a world where lukewarmness threatens to engulf us all, it’s essential to remember our sole allegiance lies with Him and the Trinity of power that has ordained our existence. We cannot be obedient without submitting to His will, for in doing so, we become part of an adventure that transcends individual boundaries.

The scriptures are clear: God’s purpose includes acting and doing, not merely existing, basking in our salvation. Through His Word, He empowers us to do His bidding and achieve greatness beyond our wildest dreams. We must heed the call to surrender, to listen, and to follow.

As we navigate these treacherous times, let us hold fast to the principles that have guided us thus far. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to Him, even when the winds of adversity howl around us.

In this moment of crisis, it’s crucial to recall that we are not alone. We are part of a larger narrative, one that is woven from the threads of countless lives who have come before us. Together, let us forge a new path forward, guided by the light of faith and the power of our collective potential.

Together, we can overcome any obstacle, achieve greatness, and create a brighter future for ourselves and those around us. The time has come to rise, to claim our rightful place in this world, and to shine our light for all to see. Enjoy the enigmatic beauty of God’s ways.

Conclusion

People in general seek their natural level. Only those who are in Christ, by the Holy Spirit, ascend to a higher level both spiritually and naturally.

It is a dangerous thing to stop learning to know more and seek God’s ways. You will become like a ship tied to a dock that never leaves for the open ocean. It is not an evil thing to continue to learn things and know more than others. It is only in seeking that you can continuously know, become, and teach. Evil exists in complacency – “I don’t know and I don’t care” is the slogan of the apathetic. Death of wisdom, death of the will, and death of the Word quickly follow. Only in knowing God’s ways can we become a full, energetic, useful, productive Christian.

Enough Said

Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts”. Jeremiah 15:16 ESV
